Dear Friend of the Land Trust:
The Land Trust of North Alabama currently owns, manages, and/or protects greenspsace in five counties in the area (Madison, Jackson, Dekalb, Marshall, and Limestone) with a target of becoming a regional influence in land preservation and protection.
The Huntsville Land Trust began 25 years ago and grew into the Land Trust of North Alabama. Taking Huntsville out of the name is not discounting in any way what the city of Huntsville has done to facilitate the start-up and growth of this organization – it is a salute to the success that has been achieved with that support. With a more regional name for the organization, it will support our efforts in fund raising in other communities across the area! We need to take our record of success in Huntsville and Madison County and apply it in our efforts across North Alabama – while still being great managers of the land that we already own in our immediate area. We will continue our focus of adding to land adjacent to current holdings while broadening and expanding our reach in coming years.
Gifts to the Land Trust don’t only come in monetary ways either – your time and talents are wonderful gifts as well! We value our volunteers and are able to accomplish great things because of their generous support. We have opportunities that are large OR small, jobs that are one-time OR on-going, jobs that are self-motivated OR guided, jobs that are group tasks OR individual tasks, but ALL are fun and rewarding! Some of our needs in coming months:
**Silent Auction for the Moon Dance – we need “shoppers” and donors to help gather
items for this FUN fundraiser!
**Office volunteers – we need people interested in helping us accomplish the administrative tasks of accreditation through our national affiliation, The Land Trust Alliance.
**Education volunteers – we need individuals interested in working to develop, produce, and organize all of our education programs for children, families, and adults!
**Mailings – we need volunteers to help us periodically with mailings to our members
and neighbors.
**Events – we have three big events each year and need volunteers interested in helping with any or all aspects of events – from organizing to clean up – we need your help!
And finally, as we continue to make efforts to become more environmentally aware, if you’d like to receive your newsletters in electronic format, please send your email address to questions@LandTrustNAL.org and we will take you off of the hard-copy list and add you to the electronic list. We may also will be combining our Annual Report with the spring newsletter to save resources and save some trees! All publictions will be available electronically – please send us your email address (and tell us when you change your email address!) so that you don’t miss any important information or announcements.
Best regards and see you on the trails,
Cynthia Potts
