The Land Trust trail system (currently 40+ miles of public trails) has been created and is maintained by volunteers whom we call our “Trail Care Crew.” Timely maintenance helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment, and enhances visitor enjoyment.

Have you enjoyed walking or running or biking a Land Trust trail? We hope you’ll consider donating a few hours to help keep YOUR trails in top condition. Perfect for anyone age 14 and up, trail care events are fun, too! Tools, water, and instruction are all provided.

For details, please email Land Manager Andy Prewett at andyp@LandTrustNAL.org.

March

3/24/12
9 am to Noon

We’ll begin cutting a new 1/2 mile section of trail on the Monte Sano Preserve that will connect the Waterline Trail to a new intersection at Alms Wagon and Wagon Trails. We expect to work on this trail over the next couple of work events. This new trail will take hikers through a smoketree stand and across some nice limestone benches that contain fossils.

We hope that you will join us for this fun project! We will meet at the Three Caves parking lot at 9am and go until noon or so. Plenty of water, tools, and instruction provided.

Directions: From California Street turn on Hermitage. Follow Hermitage until it dead ends into Kennamer. Turn left on Kennamer and and go to the bottom of the hill and turn into the open gate to the right. That is the parking area for Three Caves at 901 Kennamer Street.

Huntsville Times Columnist (and Land Trust member) Steve Justice described Land Trust Preserves as “a world class amenity. Walking along the miles of trails that wind through those protected woods, it is incredible to think that tens of thousands of people live within 10 minutes of the near-wilderness setting. In some cities, residents have to drive for hours to get to a comparable park.”
