CANOPY is a collaboration between artist Charlotte Marie Isbell and the Land Trust of North Alabama that brings contemporary painting into conversation with the natural landscapes of North Alabama.
Rooted in Isbell’s exploration of changing light, weather, memory, and place, CANOPY invites visitors to slow down and pay attention—to a painting, to a landscape, and to the connections between them. The experience asks a simple question: How might art help us see and connect more deeply with the natural world?

On October 17, experience Isbell’s newest body of work in a one-day-only indoor exhibition in downtown Huntsville.
Visitors may drop in without a reservation and view the immersive oil paintings at their leisure from 10 AM – 6 PM. A selection of artwork will be available for purchase.

On October 18, CANOPY will exist for one day only at the Land Trust’s Hickory Cove Nature Preserve.
The largest work in the CANOPY series will be installed within the protected landscape, creating an immersive experience where artwork and environment become one. Each reservation includes a private 15-minute sitting from a handcrafted timber bench, with time slots available for one or two people.

A private 15-minute experience with the artwork.
- Morning, Dappled or Evening Light – $30
A private 15-minute sitting during a selected natural-light period.
- Artist Sitting – $40
A private 15-minute sitting followed by 10 quiet minutes with the artist. Available during select times.

Charlotte Marie Isbell is an Australian-born contemporary painter whose practice extends into immersive, site-responsive environments. Based in Northern Alabama, her visual language has been shaped by years living and working between Australia, Europe, and the United States.
Working primarily in oil, her work explores the nuanced interplay between emotion, memory, and physical landscape; how complex emotional states can coexist without extremity or simplification. Through layered, intuitive compositions, she creates immersive abstraction that invites sustained reflection and embodied presence.
With a distinctly intuitive process, Isbell builds her canvases from gestures more than outlines, sensation more than certainty.
Her paintings rarely declare. They suggest.
She draws from nature as both subject and collaborator, seeking moments that feel honest and alive.
