Nature Reimagined: Creative Showcase at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve

April 26 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Nature Reimagined | A Guided Hike & Creative Showcase is a new two-session program that encourages high school juniors and seniors to create art inspired by one of the Land Trust’s trails, spaces, or history. This year, we are featuring Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve. For the first session, registered students participated in a guided brainstorming hike on April 5th, where they learned all about this preserve and North Alabama’s unique environment. For Session 2, those same participants are invited to present the artworks they have created in response to Session 1. This creative showcase will take place at the Terry Pavilion of Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve.

High school juniors or seniors who live within Madison County (and who participated in Session 1 and register for Session 2) are invited to submit 1 to 3 of the following types of art inspired by their experience of nature:

  1. 2D & 3D Visual art (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed-media; no digitally displayed works)
    • 2D works no bigger than 18″ x 24″ x 2″ (framed prefered, but not required)
    • 3D works can vary in size and be displayed on pedestals we provide, directly on the ground at the Pavillion, and/or potentially installed on the grounds.
  2. Performing + Literary Arts
        • Poetry/ Short Story (to be read aloud at the showcase) | 10 minutes in length or less
        • Original music (to be performed at the showcase) | 10 minutes in length or less
        • Dance (to be performed at the showcase) | 10 minutes in length or less

Registration is required to exhibit/perform artwork in Session 2 and is limited to those who participated in Session 1. Please check your email after Session 1 for the link to submit your art registrations for Session 2. Please be sure to include the size of your work when submitting a physical piece. Students under 18 must submit with a registration signed by a parent/guardian. Students under 16 must also be accompanied to the showcase by a parent/guardian.

This showcase is open to the public to attend. We invite the students’ families, friends, and other supporters to come to Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve to see what works of art North Alabama’s wild spaces may inspire.

Driving directions to Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve: Coming from Huntsville, cross Chapman Mountain and U-turn at Moores Mill Road. When safe, get into the merge lane on the right (plenty of time). When the silver guard rail ends, be ready to turn right onto the paved entrance. Drive through the gate and down the gravel road to the parking area at the bottom of the hill.
