Weed Wrangle at Chapman Mountain
March 8 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join the Land Trust of North Alabama (LTNA) and Wild Ones North Alabama (WONA) for a community Weed Wrangle® at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve! This one-day volunteer event focuses on rescuing public parks and green spaces from invasive, non-native plants through hands-on removal efforts. Guided by an expert in invasive weed management, volunteers will learn to identify and control invasive species, helping restore native habitats.
What to Expect:
- Target Species: Bush honeysuckle, Chinese privet, and English ivy.
- Activities: Volunteers will receive training on invasive plant identification and control techniques before cutting and stump-treating invasive plants to prevent regrowth.
- Why It Matters: Invasive plants disrupt ecosystems, reducing food sources for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. This is your chance to make a positive impact on local biodiversity while learning skills to manage invasives in your own yard.
Volunteer Info:
- Physical Activity: Expect moderate to vigorous physical work.
- What to Bring: Sturdy shoes/boots, long sleeves, pants, hat, gardening gloves, eye protection, bug spray, and garden tools (loppers, pruning saws, clippers). LTNA will provide specialty tools and buckthorn blasters.
- Who: Volunteers ages 16+ (30-40 volunteers needed).
