The Land Trust of North Alabama closed Friday morning on the purchase of a 65-acre tract on Green Mountain, permanently protecting the property from development and advancing the organization’s long-term River to Gap initiative. The acquisition was made possible through the support of community members, partners, and donors who raised $300,000 over the past year to secure the critical property.
The newly protected land is located off Green Mountain Road just north of Camelot Drive, with access directly from the roadway at the base of the mountain. The tract connects Blevins Gap Nature Preserve to already conserved land on Green Mountain, strengthening a key wildlife and habitat corridor along the mountain’s western slope while protecting water resources and preserving scenic views.
The 65-acre parcel consists of upland hardwood forest that supports diverse native plant and animal species. In addition to its ecological value, the land provides an important green viewshed along Green Mountain Road and serves as a natural buffer to development pressures in South Huntsville.
