Land Trust Receives Grant to Combat Invasive Species

Mike Lowe, a volunteer representative of the Community Foundation, presents the grant award to Land Trust Executive Director Marie Bostick and Development Director Hallie Porter.
We’re excited to share that the Land Trust of North Alabama has received a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s Taylor Endowment Fund 2025. This investment will support an important new initiative focused on the education and control of non-native, invasive plant species across our nature preserves and other protected lands.

Invasive plants pose a growing threat to North Alabama’s native ecosystems. With the help of this grant, we’re launching a multi-faceted project that will:
- Educate the public on the ecological dangers of invasive species
- Partner with local organizations to recruit and train volunteers in plant identification and removal
- Establish a core group of trained volunteers dedicated to ongoing invasive species management
This effort represents a major step toward protecting biodiversity and preserving the health of our natural areas. We’re grateful to the Community Foundation for investing in this work and in the long-term care of the lands we all enjoy.
