Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve in Colbert County is one of Alabama’s most beautiful natural treasures.
The 713-acre, privately-owned preserve has been created and cared for over the past 40 years by owners Jim and Faye Lacefield. Located near Tuscumbia, the scenic natural area features a stunning collection of sandstone canyons, waterfalls, creeks, wildflower areas, rock formations, and archaeological sites. The Lacefields, recognizing their land’s natural significance, have ensured it remains protected for the future while also making it available for others to enjoy with 15 miles of hiking trails.
As they plan for the future of the property, the Lacefields have partnered with the Land Trust of North Alabama, who took over management on September 1, 2022. The Land Trust will provide management of day-to-day operations and facilitate public access. In preparation for this transition, the preserve was temporarily closed over the summer and a new visitor sign-in kiosk and parking area were completed. In addition, two part-time Land Stewards Haley Joy and James Hunter will now be on-site during open hours to assist visitors with sign-in, provide trail information, and complete property and trail maintenance. Haley is a current student at the University of North Alabama studying Recreation Management and James is a recent graduate of the same program.

There is no fee for access but donations to support maintenance and personnel are accepted. Visitors are required to sign-in and out at the entrance kiosk.
