The Land Trust’s Nature Discovery Center will be the heart of all things wild and wonderful in North Alabama.

Visitors of all ages will learn about and experience the wonders of our wild lands through guided experiences, ADA-accessible natural areas, interpretive displays, school programs, and in-depth workshops. Indoor classrooms will blend with nature exploration on a 146-acre mountainside preserve. Children, families, and adults can learn about our unique natural resources and the benefits they offer us and our community as a whole. This inviting hub for outdoor recreation will provide information about all of our region’s nature activities – hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, caving and beyond – allowing visitors and residents to craft their own adventures. In short, the Nature Discovery Center will be North Alabama’s gateway to the outdoors, showcasing our astonishing natural resources and all that nature contributes to our quality of life.

The Nature Discovery Center will serve as a community gathering space, inviting all people to learn about and experience nature. This approximately 10,000-sqft education and visitor center will offer an inspiring glimpse of the many wonders found throughout North Alabama’s natural landscapes and serve as a jumping off point for outdoor learning and adventures.

In April 2023, Concord Land Development, Inc. donated 144 acres in central Huntsville creating Hickory Cove Nature Preserve, the Land Trust’s tenth public preserve. Near the intersection of Highway 72 and Moores Mill Road, the property includes a 1.75-mile established trail known as Legacy Loop, which begins from the City of Huntsville’s Trailhead Greenway. The mountainside features a historic spring house, rocky bluffs, wet-weather falls, a diverse forest, and an ideal location for the Land Trust’s future Nature Discovery Center.
