Leafless Tree ID Hike with Ken Ward Monte Sano

Sure, you know your leaves, but how confident are you about bark? Put your skills to the test and join dendrologist (the study of wooded plants) Ken Ward on Monte Sano Nature Preserve for a morning of leafless tree identification and learn how to identify trees in the dead of winter. (2.5 hours / Moderate / 1.5 miles)

Location: Monte Sano Nature Preserve (Bankhead Trailhead) – 2442 Bankhead Parkway, Huntsville, AL 35801

These FREE hikes offer natural beauty and exercise for the entire family but donations to help preserve green space are accepted! You don’t need fancy equipment! However, we do recommend:

  • long pants and comfortable shoes with good tread
  • bottled water
  • hiking sticks
  • trail snacks
  • and a camera to capture the experience

​Dogs welcome, but must be on leads. In case of rain, hikes may be cancelled. Please verify cancellation here or on our Facebook Page.

RESERVATION IS REQUIRED for guided hikes. Space is limited. Please register by 5 PM on Friday before weekend hikes. Our office is closed on Saturday & Sunday. Please call 256-534-5263 or email questions@landtrustnal.org if you have questions or need additional information.
