On May 11, 1865, Trough Springs on Monte Sano Mountain was the site of a significant moment in Civil War history. Land Trust Board Member David Young will lead a 2 mile guided hike to share the story of Lt. Col. Milus E. “Bushwhacker” Johnston and his dramatic surrender to Union Forces.
Location: Monte Sano Nature Preserve (South Monte Sano Trailhead) – 1970 Monte Sano Boulevard, Huntsville, AL 35801

2018 Fall Hike and Adventure Series

These FREE hikes offer natural beauty and exercise for the entire family but donations to help preserve green space are accepted! You don’t need fancy equipment! However, we do recommend:

  • long pants and comfortable shoes with good tread
  • bottled water
  • hiking sticks
  • trail snacks
  • and a camera to capture the experience

Dogs welcome, but must be on leads. In case of rain, hikes may be cancelled.  Please verify cancellation at landtrustnal.org or on the Land Trust of North Alabama Facebook Page (@landtrustnal).

RESERVATION IS REQUIRED for all guided hikes and events. Please register by 5 PM the Friday before weekend hikes. Please call 256-534-5263 or email questions@landtrustnal.org if you have questions or need additional information.
