Thanks to generous support from our community, another critical connecting parcel has been preserved on Green Mountain in South Huntsville! This newly preserved 27.37 acre property connects existing Land Trust lands allowing for 185 acres of contiguous natural space on the western face of Green Mountain. This expanded natural corridor stretches 1.75 miles from Green Mountain Road south toward the Tennessee River (shown in the map below).
This undisturbed space will provide a migration corridor and essential habitat for wildlife to flourish as well as a place for outdoor enthusiasts to explore future trails, part of the City of Huntsville’s Greenway Master Plan.
This addition completes one critical piece of the River to Gap puzzle but there are still missing connections that will need to be filled. With your support, the Land Trust can continue our efforts to acquire critical properties as they become available for purchase. Together, we can make the vision for a community connection stretching from Blevins Gap to the Tennessee River a reality! As new updates and opportunities develop, we will let you know! But for now, we thank you for your support in making this huge step possible.
