Pop-Up Hike: Green Mountain Nature Preserve

(Moderate / 1.5 hours / approximately 2 miles)  While the Green Mountain Nature Preserve has quite a few hills within its boundaries, we’re not going to walk on many of them at all on this outing!  This hike, led by Denise Swain, will take us through the oak-hickory forest of Green Mountain along part of the Alum Hollow Trail as well as the East Plateau Loop. The hike pace will be slow, and this walk is appropriate for elementary-age hikers.  Be sure to wear appropriate shoes, though, as the trail has some rocks and tree roots.  Bring a camera and be ready for the little details that make the winter forest a special place.

Location: Green Mountain Nature Preserve – 13800 South Shawdee Road, Huntsville, AL 35803 (Please note: This Land Trust Nature Preserve is not the same thing as the Madison County Nature Trail.  The trailhead for this hike is just up the road from the Nature Trail entrance.)
