Tuesdays on the Trail: Herpetology
July 9 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Head outdoors on Tuesdays in June and July to discover our area’s unique biodiversity protected by Land Trust preserves!
The Expedition: Search with herpetology expert Andrew Cantrell for the snakes and lizards native to Madison County. Take a special opportunity to spend time hiking at a Land Trust property that is closed to public access. Matthews Nature Preserve is family-friendly with very little elevation change, so younger siblings are welcome to tag along!
From Andrew, our event leader:
We welcome you to learn about the vast diversity of reptiles and amphibians that call Alabama home. Come join herpetologist Andrew Cantrell on a small adventure to see what we can find at Matthews Preserve (a preserve closed to the public). The aim is to help you learn about these secretive animals, how to look for them safely (for you and them), and what makes these species so special. Long pants and boots recommended. Bug spray and sunscreen is recommended, but not if you would like the opportunity to handle any of these species.
Cost: FREE but only available for Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above. Not a Land Trust Member? Join today!
Reservations: Land Trust members at the Trailblazer (Family) level or above only. Reservations are required. Space is limited. Please register using parent/guardian’s information (name on your Land Trust membership) and select spots for the number of children only. Adults do not need to reserve a spot for themselves. Registered participants will receive an email with full details closer to the event. There are no waitlists for these events. If spaces become available, registration will reopen so please check back if you’re interested in attending.
Ages: 6-12 years. An accompanying adult is required for all programs.
Activity Leader: Andrew Cantrell
