Bethel Spring Nature Preserve Opening Day

February 29, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

We’re excited to open our 8th public nature preserve! This picturesque farm turned nature preserve is home to one of the tallest waterfalls in Madison county as well as an accessible trail that weaves around a creek and working farmland.

Registration for Bethel Spring Opening Day Hikes has CLOSED. Due to limited parking, we’ve reached capacity for these hikes but plan to offer more guided hike opportunities at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve very soon! We invite you to explore the preserve on your own (although we ask that you please wait until after 2 pm on Saturday, February 29). Like all Land Trust preserves, Bethel Spring will be open from dawn to dusk daily. Thank you!

10:15 AM – Members-Only History Hike
(2.5 hours / Difficult / 2 miles)
Join UAH historian John Kvach on a hike up to the breathtaking waterfall at Bethel Spring while enjoying stories of the preserve’s past. Not a member? Join today!

10:30 AM – Public Waterfall Hike
(2.5 hours / Difficult / 2 miles)
Land Steward Tim Barnack will lead you up the mountainside of Bethel Spring to the picturesque waterfall where you’ll learn about all the work that has been completed at Bethel as we prepared for opening the preserve to the public.

10:20 AM – Stroll on Bethel Spring Loop
(45 minutes/ Easy / .5 mile)
In 2019, grant funding from the Alpha Foundation allowed for the construction of a packed gravel, accessible loop at Bethel Spring. The trail features two bridges crossing a spring-fed creek and a valley view looking up toward Keel Mountain. Enjoy a slow paced stroll intended for a variety of trail users.
