Weekend Wanderings at Green Mountain

Weekend Wanderings, our program for young hikers (ages 6-12 years with accompanying adult), highlights a different Land Trust preserve each month, providing participants with a variety of opportunities to explore, develop some new skills, and learn about the natural environment.
March’s Wander will be at the Green Mountain Nature Preserve, and we’ll be exploring the Alum Hollow Trail. We’re going to take it all the way to the waterfall and rock overhang, so please be aware that this is about a 2.5 mile hike. The route isn’t too difficult, but it is a long hike. The terrain is fairly uneven with roots and rocks and there is a short, challenging section at the very end that takes you to the rock overhang.
- Cost: FREE but membership to support our mission is very much appreciated.
- Reservations: Registration required. Space is limited. Please register using parent/guardian’s information and select spots for the number of participating children only. Adults do not need to reserve a spot for themselves. There are no waitlists for these events. If spaces become available, registration will reopen so please check back if you’re interested in attending.
- Ages: 6-12 years. An accompanying adult is required for all programs.
- What to Bring: We recommend closed toe shoes, long pants, bug spray, sunscreen as appropriate, and water.
- Time: Starting times and program duration will vary, depending on the event.

Please note that this is NOT the Madison County Nature Trail. The Land Trust’s Green Mountain Nature Preserve is located just past the entrance to the Nature Trail. You can look for a gravel trailhead parking area just off the road marked with a dark green Land Trust logo sign.
