Hike at Chapman Mountain
July 13 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
(Moderate / Around 1.5 hours / About 2 miles) Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve is becoming one of our more popular preserves – come see why! For this hike, your hike leader will take the group through the “flat” part of the preserve, exploring the Driskell and Chasco trails as well as parts of the Terry and Moonshine trails. As we’re avoiding the hills, this hike is appropriate for elementary age hikers. If you have a pair of binoculars, you might want to bring them – this preserve is a birding destination for those who enjoy bird watching. In fact, the preserve now houses a bird blind just a few feet from the pavilion that hosts a very popular screech owl. Come see if you can spot our feathered friend!
Location: Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve – 1263 U.S Hwy 72 East, Huntsville, AL 35811
Directions: Coming from Huntsville, cross Chapman Mountain on Hwy 72 and u-turn at Moores Mill Road. When safe, get into the merge lane on the right (plenty of time). When the silver guard rail ends, be ready to turn right onto the paved entrance. Drive through the gate and down the gravel road to the parking area at the bottom of the hill.
In the event this hike has to be canceled due to weather or trail conditions, we will send a notification to the email address you use to register.
